Some Donnie Darko news: (spotlight on the director)

DONNIE DARKO is one of those ultimate cult movies, but it looks like autuer Richard Kelly will be surpassing it with his next one, SOUTHLAND TALES, a sci-fi musical comedy mystery whatnot. It stars The Rock, Seann William Scott and Sarah Michelle Gellar as...well, here's the plot summary:

SOUTHLAND TALES is an ensemble piece set in the futuristic landscape of Los Angeles on July 4, 2008, as it stands on the brink of social, economic and environmental disaster. Johnson will star as Boxer Santaros, an action star stricken with amnesia whose life intertwines with Krysta Now (Gellar), an adult film star developing her own reality television project and David Clark (Scott), a Hermosa Beach police officer who holds the key to a vast conspiracy.

The cast also includes Janeane Garofalo, Jason Lee, Amy Poehler and Kevin Smith, while Moby and Trent Reznor will compose the score, according to reports.

But here's where the comics come in.

Besides the feature film, plans are underway for an expanded version of Southland Tales including a a nine-part interactive experience with the prequel saga to be published as six separate 100 page graphic novels, each written by Kelly. The graphic novels will be released over a six month period early next year leading up to the film's release with the feature film comprised of the story's final three chapters. The aforementioned official website will continue to be updated, with hopes of making it one of the largest and most elaborate ever designed for a feature film. According to Kelly, "the graphic novels will work in tandem with the website, creating a more epic multimedia experience for those interested in taking the plunge."

The website is live now, where you can read the titles of the graphic novels there -- stuff like "Two Road Convergeds" and "The Mechanicals." The site is indeed a vast and puzzling edifice, like a giant silver bunny. It also crashed Firefox quite handily.

I got that from a comic blog hehe
